Full view of bathroom renovation in Pasadena with modern fixtures and decorative tiles.

We love talking about the nuts and bolts of a good bathroom remodel. You know, the architecture solutions, design choices, and the “honey-let’s-do” lists we work on for each family. But this time around, we’re going to switch things up! We’ll still talk about the amazing modern bathroom remodel in Pasadena we did for Tyler and Jennifer. Converting that old laundry room into a throne room. But here’s the thing: we want to give a special shout-out to the awesome people behind this project. We’re always talking about what makes the perfect GO Builder’s client, and I gotta say Tyler and Jennifer are exactly that. They’re the kind of clients who make us want to fire up the old power tools a little quicker.

Let’s dive in and see why these two are GO Members for life!

Clients That Know How to Express Themselves

"My "aha" moment was when we first met them and I saw they had a karaoke machine sitting front and center of their living room. This is when I knew that they're our type of client. People who are not afraid to express themselves and have fun. I turned out to be right at the end."

A Client That is Open to Creative Renovations

Tyler and Jennifer could have easily let the tough regulations in Pasadena get the best of them. It’s no secret that the city is notorious for its strict renovation rules, and we’ve had clients in the past get frustrated or even blame us when a project doesn’t pass inspection. But what we loved most about Tyler and Jennifer was that they understood right from the start that we were all on the same team, working together to make their vision a reality.

When the city rejected our permit request to extend the front of their home, citing the requirement that the front setback must be at least 25 feet from the curb, they didn’t let it break their spirits. Pasadena calculates this by averaging the distances of the other homes on the block, which led to some, let’s just say, “unique” suggestions—like shaping the front of their house like a triangle. Clearly, no one in their right mind would want that!

So, we regrouped and submitted another proposal, this time for an ADU addition at the back of the house. Unfortunately, the city rejected that too due to the proximity of an electrical pole. Most clients would have thrown in the towel at this point, but not Tyler and Jennifer. Together, we got creative and found ways to increase the value of their home despite these challenging regulations.

The result? This bold and artsy bathroom renovation. Tyler and Jennifer trusted our design recommendations, and as you can see, the outcome is as functional as it is striking. Their determination and teamwork helped turn a few setbacks into a beautifully finished project. Take a look for yourself below.

How We Turned a Laundry Room into a Modern Bathroom Remodel in Pasadena

Tyler and Jennifer came to us with the plan to turn their old laundry room into an elegant and modern bathroom. They somewhat knew what they wanted but were also open to creative ideas. And we love clients like that! This makeover needed more than simply new fixtures. In order for us to make the most out of the space, it needed creative architecture and design that opened up the room. We think we were able to accomplish what we all had in mind.

Smart Architectural, Small Space

It was no easy task to transform a little laundry room into a functional bathroom. The original layout didn’t leave room for us to really get creative, but with careful planning, we made it all work. To make the most out of the space, we installed a custom corner shower with green tiles that added both a modern and timeless touch.

The Right Design Choices for a Bathroom

Jennifer and Tyler were set on having a bathroom that felt serene but also stylish, so we went for earthy tones and matte black fixtures to give the bathroom a contemporary yet calm feel. The clear glass shower enclosure helped open up the room visually, while the built-in niches in the shower offered practical storage without taking up extra space. We wanted to create a harmonious look that was modern and inviting while making sure it reflected their personal style.

Tiles and Patterns

We chose Bedrosians Makoto Matte Ceramic Wall Tile in Midori Green for the walls, giving the shower a subtle yet eye-catching color. The matte finish adds a sophisticated touch and complements the other elements in the room. To add contrast, we incorporated Bedrosians Marin Ceramic Wall Tile in Black along the shower base, which provided a grounded look that balanced the airy feel of the green tiles.

For the flooring, Tyler and Jennifer fell in love with the Vivace Decorative Tile in Motif Rice. Its unique geometric pattern not only added a touch of artistry to the space but also made the room appear larger and more dynamic. This motif was carried into the shower floor as well, tying the entire room together.

Fixtures and Finishes

To maintain a cohesive look, we used matte black fixtures throughout the bathroom. The Drea Pressure Balance Shower System with Slide Bar and Hand Shower became a focal point in the shower. Its sleek design paired well with the geometric tiles, and the hand shower added convenience and flexibility. For drainage, we installed a Signature Hardware Cohen Square Tile-In Shower Drain with a Drain Flange, seamlessly integrating it with the shower floor tiles.

Above the vanity, we installed the steel frame square-shaped medicine cabinet from Glass Warehouse Calla. Its modern look and slim profile added storage without overwhelming the small space. Paired with the Lexia Single-Hole Vessel Faucet in Matte Black, the sink area became a low-key centerpiece of the bathroom.

Storage and Functionality

To maximize the small space, we opted for a floating vanity, specifically the ON Floating Bellezza Floating Vanity Vessel in walnut. This vanity provided ample storage for toiletries while keeping the floor area clear, making the bathroom feel more open and spacious. The warm tone of the walnut finish brought a sense of natural warmth to the room, perfectly complementing the earthy green tiles.

The final touch was a Signature Hardware Cohen Square Tile-In Shower Drain with Drain Flange, which matched the geometric motif of the floor tiles and kept the look clean and cohesive.

An Elegant Bathroom Renovation in Pasadena

The finished product is a bathroom that perfectly combines both elegance and practicality. It is both aesthetically beautiful and useful for daily use. And it’s all thanks to clients who wanted to work with us no matter what obstacles we encountered. Every job we work on teaches us something new, and this Pasadena bathroom makeover was no exception.
