Custom home built 2024 on Bakman Avenue, Studio City, Los Angeles

Custom Home Build:
Studio City, Los Angeles

3,882 sq ft. Five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a 600 sq ft guest house on a 6,492 sq ft lot.

Go Home Builders built this 3,882 sq ft custom home on Bakman Avenue in Studio City, Los Angeles, completed in 2024. Five bedrooms, six bathrooms, two storeys on a 6,492 sq ft lot, with a detached 600 sq ft guest house behind the pool. The lot is zoned LAR1 and sits inside the City of Los Angeles, so plan check ran through LADBS — the postal address reads North Hollywood, but the permit path is the same either way.

Five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a balcony on almost every one

The primary sits under a beamed cathedral ceiling with its own fireplace, a walk-in closet, and sliding doors onto a private balcony. Each guest bedroom got the same treatment — its own balcony, its own walk-in. One bedroom and one full bathroom sit on the ground floor, which is the decision people wish they’d made ten years later. On a 6,492 sq ft lot where the pool, the spa and the guest house have already claimed the yard, the balconies are the outdoor space. One per room, upstairs.

Why 3,882 sq ft feels bigger than it is

Living room with stone fireplace wall opening to pool and guest house, Studio City custom home

The main floor is effectively one room. Formal dining runs into the family room with nothing between them, and there’s glass at both ends — sliding doors front and back — so light crosses the entire floor plate instead of dying halfway. A narrow lot pushes most builders toward a corridor plan. Here a stone fireplace wall and built-in cabinetry do the dividing that a partition would have done, without cutting the sightline or the light.

One wall, three jobs

The family room fireplace is electric, and that single decision unlocked the whole wall. No flue means no chase, so the stone slab runs unbroken floor to ceiling and the television sits directly above the firebox — something you can’t safely do over most gas or wood-burning units. White oak built-ins flank it on both sides and absorb the storage that would otherwise have needed a separate piece of furniture in the room. One wall doing the work of three, and no floor space spent on it.

An all-electric kitchen, and the solar to feed it

Electric range, electric oven, and a house heated by central, solar and two fireplaces — no gas cooking anywhere in it. The kitchen runs off the same roof array that heats the house. Stone counters, a central island, and soft-close on every door and drawer. It opens straight into the family room rather than sitting behind a wall, which on a lot this size is the difference between a kitchen you cook in alone and one you cook in while the room is full.

There are three places to eat in this house: the island, the eat-in kitchen, and a separate formal dining room. On 6,492 sq ft of ground that sounds like a lot to give up. It works because none of them is a dedicated room with a door — they’re zones on one open floor, and each one earns its space at a different time of day.
The lot is 50 feet wide and 130 feet deep. That width is what drove every decision on this house. The main house takes the middle of the site, the garage sits off the back, and the guest house runs the full length of one property line — bedroom, bath, kitchen and living room in a strip, with the pool equipment tucked at the far end where nobody hears it. Bedroom #1 and a full bath are on the ground floor. Everything else went up.

Building something similar?

This was 3,882 sq ft on a 50-foot lot in Studio City, permitted through LADBS. Yours will have a different lot, a different setback and a different set of constraints, which is why the useful first conversation is about the site rather than a number.
